It makes me incredibly happy to see Inward Empire pass the 2,000 download mark. Thank you all for listening and sharing! I’d like to give you a quick update about what’s been going on with the show, and what you can expect in the near future.
The next episode will be about Buffalo Bill’s Wild West, the outrageously popular performance that ran from the 1883 to 1913. Bill called it “America’s national entertainment,” an “object lesson” on the meaning of the frontier and the direction of our history. Having played a role in the reality of the closing frontier, Bill did more than anyone else to shape its transformation from history to myth. At the same time, the show was a kind of cultural embassy to the rest of the world, touring Europe and asserting the United States’ new role as an imperial power. I’m still in the early stages of research, so I’ve yet to find an angle – but I’m very excited to sink my teeth into this project.
The last couple of months have been very busy for me. I’ve moved back to my hometown of Boston, and been bouncing between two jobs and classes with minimal time for Inward Empire stuff. Now that things have settled down a bit, I’m looking forward to committing some serious time to the next show. Expect the next episode some time in December!
